It’s heeeere!

The playfully teased new Lizzo bop “Rumors” featuring the bad bitch from the Bronx, our favorite Cardi B, has finally arrived and it is the rock n roll- pop- gospel jam that we all needed since…well, Lizzo’s last radio hit.

To the smooth + rhythmic bass guitar beat, our twerk + flute-rapping icon comments on all the negative chatter that’s been said about her lately online + tabloids.“They say I should watch the shit I post, oh gahdamn,/ say I’m turning big girls into hoes, oh gahdamn,” and proudly announces that “all the rumors are true, yeah.” The pop-rap queen of the radio continues to spit back at her haters with both outrageous + unapologetic promises of “What ya’ heard, that’s true, yeah/ I fuck him and you, yeah/ If you believe I do that.” She continues to preach her truth back to the bug-a-boos that be “spending all your time tryna break a woman down” and reminding them that “Realer shit is going on baby, take a look around.” Her vocals matched with the chorus horns kiss an upbeat, Broadway-like sound, shouting “Sick of rumors/ But haters do what they do (uh)! a summer anthem of more of Lizzo’s “don’t-give-a-fuck-I’mma-live-my-life” as she sings “If you thought that I was ratchet with my ass hanging/ Just wait till the summer when they let me out the house, bitch.”

Her openness + fun authenticity, combined with Cardi’s bold vitality makes one hell of a song. Lizzo hands over the mic to Queen Cardi, who fires back at her own rumors + haters, admitting the truth but also making a note that, “All the rumor’s are true, yeah/ fake ass, fake boobs, yeah/ made a million at Sue’s, yeah/ Got me runnin’ with fake news, yeah.”

The video completely gives off Greek mixed with an old Mac or Windows screensaver, but specifically a melanated Hercules-type energy with the animated pottery scenes + moving paintings; plus Lizzo + Cardi themselves came lookin’ like a couple of gorgeous, gold muses, along with the background dancers. Can you not see the gospel truth?? The likeness to “Zero-to-Hero? (And I don’t just mean the video for that one!) The music video background can also be reflected back in the film with the clouds + colors shown, mostly around Cardi, but either way, the shit looks like a fucking moving painting. We may have to get used to the CGI + animated music video phase, but Lizzo always adds the perfect dose of “That Bitch” spice that makes the style all her own and I absolutely love it. Throwin’ out affirmations like “I love hoes on poles, I am body goals, yeah/ this shit from my soul, yeah/ black people made rock + roll, yeah.” Another future #1 for Lizzo + Cardi. But did we really doubt them? It came out better than anything I was imagining. Wayyy better.

Lizzo + the Marvelous Muses

And here I thought my hot girl summer playlist couldn’t get any more lit than it was after “Wild Side” hit. Whew, baby + all Cardi B be workin’ y’all. I’m praying this is only the beginning of new Lizzo Szn.
